Hello all,
Sorry for the hiatus from posting I was working at a summer camp plus finishing up my summer courses so life was a bit hectic. I have officially started my job as a kindergarten teacher! Training began this past Monday, goes through the 20th of August and my new kindergarteners arrive on the 25th! There has been so much to learn these past three days; learning the layout of the school, meeting all the other faculty and meeting my co-teacher.
The school I teach at believes co-teaching is one of our many secrets to success. Every classroom has two teachers who teach all the lessons together. The concept is still a bit new to me but I'm excited to dive into teaching with Alli, my co-teacher. She has a few more years experience teaching kindergarten so she will have tons of advice, ideas, and knowledge to offer me. She is also open to my ideas as well which I was nervous about at first. We will be teaching the SEI (Structured English Immersion) kindergarten class so the majority of our students will come in speaking little to no English. I am definitely nervous about this part as my Spanish is not up to par and I don't have as much experience working with ELLs (English Language Learners). I am eager however to challenge myself with this new experience. I'll be sure to update more often as our training and school year gets under way!
